How It Works
Our watermark removal tool uses advanced AI inpainting technology to intelligently reconstruct the image content hidden beneath a watermark. Here is a brief overview of the process:
Detection: You select the watermark region on your image, and our AI identifies the area that needs to be reconstructed.
Inpainting: On our server, the AI analyzes the surrounding pixels -- texture, color, lighting, and patterns -- and fills in the watermarked area with content that blends seamlessly with the rest of the image.
Output: The cleaned image is sent back to your browser, ready for download.
For watermark addition, you can overlay custom text watermarks onto your photos with full control over placement, size, colour, opacity, and tiling.
Privacy by Design
Your privacy is not an afterthought -- it is a core design principle. Our approach is straightforward:
No image storage: Uploaded images are processed in server memory and are never saved or kept: they exist only while your request is processed. They are never logged or cached.
Immediate disposal: Both the original and processed images are discarded from memory the moment processing is complete and the result is delivered to your browser.
No accounts required: We do not ask for your name, email address, or any other personal details to use the tool.
Short-lived server logs: Like any website, our web server keeps a standard access log (IP address, browser, pages requested) for about 14 days, for security and abuse prevention. It never contains your images.
No image recovery: Once processing is finished, we have no technical ability to access or recover your images.
RemoveWatermark.org is designed for legitimate use cases: cleaning up your own photos, removing watermarks from images you have the rights to, restoring personal media, and protecting your work with custom watermarks. How We Write and Check Our Guides
The guides on this site are written and maintained by the people who build and run the tool. They are published under the site's name, not an individual's.
They describe the tool as it actually behaves. When the tool changes, we update the guides that describe it. In September 2026 we went through every page and removed statements that were not true, such as a claim that images were processed on your own device (they are processed on our server) and speed and success-rate figures we could not back up.
Our example images are real. The before-and-after figures use source images we drew ourselves, with invented logos and text, so they show no one else's work. Every “after” image is unedited output from the live tool.
We say where the tool fails. AI inpainting struggles with faces or text under the mask, tiled marks on busy scenes, hard edges and smooth gradients, and the guides say so.
