Remove Watermark Online — Free AI Tool

Free · Private · No signup

RemoveWatermark.org is a free online watermark remover that uses LaMa (Large Mask Inpainting), an open-source AI model, to reconstruct the pixels underneath a watermark instead of blurring over it. It handles text watermarks, logos, date stamps and tiled overlays on PNG, JPG, WEBP and BMP files up to 10MB, singly or in batches. Images are processed in server memory and never written to disk. No account, no install, no cost.

Example

A tiled stock watermark,
removed.

Before and after watermark removal: on the left, a dusk landscape covered by a repeating diagonal "SAMPLE STOCK" watermark and a "© PhotoCo" corner mark; on the right, the same landscape with both watermarks removed and the sun, ridgelines and water reflections intact.
Real output, not a mock-up. The source image was drawn for this demonstration, watermarked with a tiled diagonal overlay plus a solid corner mark, then processed through the same /api/remove-watermark endpoint the tool above uses. Nothing was retouched afterwards.

Quick guide

Get the best results
from each tool.

Auto-Detect Text

Scans the entire image for text using AI. Highlights detected text in red. Click any detected region to deselect it if it's not a watermark. Best starting point for most images.

Smart Brush

Touch any letter and the entire connected shape auto-highlights based on color similarity. Adjust the Tolerance slider — lower for precise selection, higher to catch faded text.

Fine Detail Mode

Essential for watermarks over eyes, faces, or intricate textures. Uses a tighter mask with no expansion and gentle blending, so the AI only touches exactly what you marked.

Touch Up

After processing, if some areas look blurry or have artifacts, click Touch Up. This loads the result back into the editor so you can paint over just the imperfect spots and run another AI pass.

FAQ

Watermark Remover
FAQ.

Is this really free?

Yes — the web tool is 100% free with no hidden costs, no paid tiers and no per-image fees. Running costs are low, and keeping it free is the point.

Is my data stored or shared?

No. Your images are processed in memory and immediately discarded. Nothing is stored, logged, or shared.

What image formats and sizes are supported?

PNG, JPG, JPEG, WEBP, and BMP up to 10MB each. You can upload multiple images at once for batch processing.

How does the AI removal work?

You highlight the watermark area (manually or with Auto-Detect), then our AI analyzes the surrounding pixels and intelligently reconstructs what should be underneath using advanced inpainting.

The result looks blurry or has artifacts. What can I do?

Use Touch Up for another AI pass on problem areas. For detailed areas like eyes or faces, enable Fine Detail mode and use a very small brush (size 1-5) with zoom.

What's the Smart Brush?

Smart Brush auto-selects entire letters when you touch them. It works by color similarity — when your brush touches a pixel, it flood-fills all connected pixels of the same color. Adjust the Tolerance slider to control how much it selects.

Can I add watermarks to protect my own images?

Yes! Switch to "Add Watermark" mode. Customize text, font size, opacity, color, position, and tiling. Live preview shows exactly how it'll look. Batch mode lets you watermark multiple images at once.

Is it legal to remove watermarks?

Removing watermarks from your own photos or images you have permission to edit is perfectly legal. Removing watermarks from copyrighted content you don't own may violate copyright laws like the DMCA. Always make sure you have the right to modify an image before editing it. Read our full guide on watermark removal legality.

Can I remove watermarks without Photoshop?

Yes. This tool uses AI-powered inpainting to remove watermarks directly in your browser — no Photoshop, no desktop software, no subscription needed. For most images, the results are comparable to manual Photoshop editing but take seconds instead of minutes. See our comparison of watermark removal tools.

Does this work on my phone?

Yes. Open RemoveWatermark.org in your phone's browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox). Upload your photo, use Auto-Detect to find watermarks, and process. The full tool works on mobile — no app download required.

Can I remove logos, not just text?

Yes. While Auto-Detect Text is optimized for text watermarks, you can paint over any type of watermark manually — logos, icons, shapes, or graphic overlays. Use the regular brush to highlight the logo area, then process. See our logo removal guide for tips.

Use cases

What Watermarks Can
You Remove?

Text Watermarks

The most common type. Copyright notices, photographer names, stock photo text overlays. Auto-Detect finds these instantly and the AI reconstructs what's underneath seamlessly.

Logo Watermarks

Camera app logos, editing tool branding, company marks. Paint over the logo with the brush tool and the AI fills in the background naturally. Works on transparent and opaque logos.

Date Stamps

Camera date/time stamps, lab processing marks, timestamps from old scanned photos. Usually small and in corners, making them the easiest to remove cleanly in one pass.

Tiled Watermarks

Repeated text or patterns covering the entire image. Auto-Detect scans the full image, then process all marked areas at once. Works well for stock photo previews and proof sheets.

Honest limits

What this tool
does badly.

Every watermark remover on the web claims to be flawless. This one is not, and knowing where it struggles will save you more time than any tip about brush size. Inpainting invents plausible pixels — it does not recover the ones the watermark covered, because that information is genuinely gone. The question is only whether the invention is convincing.

Faces and text underneath

If a watermark sits across a face, a licence plate or printed words, the model reconstructs texture rather than meaning. It will produce clean-looking skin or a smeared approximation of letters, not the real eye or the real word. There is no setting that fixes this — the data is not there to recover.

Large tiled watermarks on busy scenes

A repeating watermark over foliage, crowds or fine architectural detail is the hardest case, because the mask covers most of the frame and leaves little surrounding context to borrow from. Expect visible softness. Multiple Touch Up passes help, but a heavily tiled preview over a detailed photo will not come out perfect.

Hard edges and straight lines

Inpainting is weakest where a strong straight edge crosses the masked area — a horizon, a window frame, the side of a building. The reconstruction tends to bend or blur the line. Painting a tighter mask that hugs the watermark, rather than a generous blob around it, is the single biggest improvement you can make here.

Very large images

Uploads are capped at 10 MB per image, and processing runs on CPU rather than a GPU. A large photo takes appreciably longer than a web-sized one, and past a quality threshold the tool downscales the image to stay inside its memory budget. For the sharpest result, crop to the region you actually need before uploading rather than sending the full frame.

Semi-transparent marks over gradients

A low-opacity watermark laid over a smooth sky or a studio backdrop often leaves a faint tonal ghost after the first pass. It is usually recoverable — run Touch Up over just the ghost — but it rarely disappears in one go, and it is the most common reason a result looks “almost right”.

What it will not do

This tool has no way to verify who owns an image, and it is not a licensing workaround. If you do not hold the rights to a picture, removing the watermark does not give you them. For stock previews the correct fix is nearly always re-downloading the file you already paid for — which is faster than editing anyway.
